Happy Thanksgiving folks ... may the gravy and diesel flow generously for all of us.

Of course, I have to work, and with my family hosting Thanksgiving, it will be a madhouse ... not going to be fun to try and pack everything up and get out the door at 5 p.m. to get to the office. At least there won't be much traffic.

Our Thanksgiving occcurs earlier than yours. We get first choice of the turkeys though but not the price. Average about 2.00 per pound now. Needless to say because of that our family buys very large birds as we always seem to have a crowd. Small price to pay though for having all those people present and seeing them enjoying themselves. Now I get to wish you all a good thanksgiving. We really do have a lot to be thankful for.

I will be driving down about 100miles to pick my dad up from the hospital.
He went through a heart ablation update surgery today, and the doctors say he pulled through it fine. they want to keep him overnight to monitor the recovery, but they think he can be released first thing in the morning... I hope they are right, but I don't want to rush his discharge just for thanksgiving.
back in august, he had his first ablation surgery, and everything short of dying that could go wrong, did. they had to administer blood THINNER heperin DURING surgery, and this caused TONS of other complications that forced him into a coma for two weeks. breathing machines, pneumonia, etc... so this time we are very cautious. Thanksgiving sure means a lot more when this type of thing is going on in your family...

I'll keep you and your dad in my prayers. Gee, and I was feeling sorry for myself because I can't taste food (nerve damage during recent surgery) and have to work ... makes me realize I should be thankful for the great blessings I DO have, like health and family. I hope this time will go much better for your father.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
Just a quick turkey frying note. Although putting the turkey in the fryer first would be safer, heating the oil would actually be better, and better for you. Cold oil will actually soak into the meat, causing your bird to be greasy, and not crispy and juicy. If you know how much oil your bird displaces you can fill the fryer with just the right amount of oil, and then heat it up and safely lower it into the hot oil.

Are you guys serious about frying whole turkeys? It's just in my sheltered life I had not heard of it before. Not that it would not work. We of course just eat them raw. That way nobody can complain about how their cooked. You cannot even buy decent okra this far north and I really like it. Happy thanksgiving again and eat well. All kiding aside we will try a fried turkey. Lets see now five gallons of cooking oil or fat. Actually sounds quite good.

MMM cooking oil... filter it when done and toss it in the fuel tank.
Thank you all for the kind words and wishes for my dad.
anyway, I had a marvelous Turkey day! Dad was released and made it home fine, he is tired and groggy from the surgery I suppose... I hope. mom took him to the emergency room tonight to have him evaluated. He seemed faint, and we were all worried for him.
I hope to hear all is well soon.
John
