Hmmm

Looks more like an instrument of torture to me.

All the 124 problems with none of the 124 pleasures. Not to mention its probably slower than a 190D.

'85 280SEL, black on black, velour, five speed, manual windows, manual seats, manual climate, and SLS. Hey, I can dream can't I?

My search will probably get under way once I get a few cars out of my hair.

I almost bought a 1981 280SEL 5 spd gray market car. It was just in such horrible condition I could not bring myself to undertake such a project. Do yourself a BIG favor and forget all about cars with hydropnuematic suspensions. They really don't provide anything to the ride quality (only the 220 chassis's ABC (Active Body Control) system has ever improved handling and ride) and are expensive to maintain. At $1000 per shock a repair can easily out class the value of your whole car.

The biggest issue are the accumulators, around $70/ea isn't a big deal. Ever priced those struts new? No where near $1k for the 126, besides I can get my hands on plenty of used ones. I'm probably one of the biggest parts yard hound dogs on here.

Hey it it makes you happy go for it!! Tinkering with the Spheres and hydraulics every 40-60K miles is not something that appeals to me at all. Since it really does not do anything other than level the car if your hauling heavy objects I would rather the reliability and lower cost. On the 126 its just a minorly expensive pain. On a 140 it becomes a really expensive pain.

It'd probably take me ten years to put that many miles no a 280SEL if that.

I have two large brothers that sit in the rear often so it's very useful for me.

Yup, the 140 is a bit crazy.

It's a euro version of a 190D 2.5 with a stick... which is nere impossible to find in usa... but a coveted combination by many economy minded mercedes/semi-retro lovers who would like a spirited high mpg ride... and it look s to be in decent shape. I think it would make a great daily driver.

Edit: Oh I guess it is a 124... diddn't notice that.

No AC, no ABS, no airbag... I've never seen a 124 so lightly optioned. I'm surprised the center console has wood trim.
