"Yellow" coolant source?

Is there an acceptable yellow coolant out there for our cars that is non MB shop brand that can be purchased at Kragen, Pep Boys, etc.? Any reccomendations and what is the real difference between the green stuff and the yellow? Thanks!

Zeres G-05 is red, and it is the preferred coolant, and it is available in stock in pepboys autozone, etc.

g-05 is yellow, and is the same as M-B. $11.99 at pepboys and NAPA. i have bought 2 gal at different times this fall, and the pkg was different. gold gal bottle, but one had G-05 in big letters, the other was tiny, hard to spot right off. not dex-cool.

I've seen it as high as $15 at the local store, but I ended up finding it for ~$13 at the local Schucks (also known as Kragen, checkers, depending on the location).

I'm guessing that there might be a couple chains that could drop ship it to you as well, if you absolutely can't find it locally.

I'd expect that it would still be less then at the dealer, though I seem to remember a thread a while ago that mentioned that the specific dealers often have different markup on the coolant, so you might (unlikely) be surprised with reasonable costs on the MB version.

On the Zerex webpage (on the Valvoline website), Zerex G05, Ford Motorcraft Premium Gold, and Mopar 5/150 are all the same type antifreeze - Zerex claims to be the supplier for Ford, Mopar, and even MB.

In short, all of them are HOAT (Hybrid Organic Acid Type) antifreezes along with the genuine MB coolant. Only difference is that Mopar 5/150 is dyed red, the others are varying shades of yellow.

MB went to this type back in the early 80's, Ford and DaimlerChrysler within the last 5 years. Chart on the Zerex webpage by manufacturer and year gives you an idea what type of antifreeze (HOAT, Dexcool, or the old green goo) your vehicle is supposed to have.

Also try Carquest (only place in my area). If not in any of the parts stores, try the local Ford dealer for Motorcraft Premium Gold (at least it's the same color), or a CJD dealer for the Mopar 5/150 (as long as you don't mind your coolant being red).

In my case, it works out perfectly - the same antifreeze for both the '05 Jeep Liberty CRD diesel and the '87 MB 300D diesel.

Same antifreeze, same oil, same fuel, same ignition system, same black cloud out the tailpipe for tailgaters - life is good.

Pep Boys has that Zerex stuff. Personally I'd never heard of the brand till I read about it here.

On an '81 240D I had no idea what to use.
Ended up getting the new one compatible with yellow or green antifreeze from NAPA, undiluted, about $9 a gallon.

If you got red coolant, you grabbed some GM Deathcool knockoff stuff. I'd get it out ASPA before it turns to mud...
