Use for old RUG?

Will a 617 burn old gasoline? A friend of mine works at a junkyard, and has barrels of old gas from the tanks of the junkers. I'm told its a virtually unending supply. Can I put this to use? What actually happens to RUG when its old? Can the petrol base still work with diesel? Can I use it to thin WVO?

All comments are welcome!

I wouldnt try it. It will even screw up a gas engine, but it is a great weed killer. Pretty dramatic fire starter too.

A 617 CANNOT run on RUG. It will destroy the injection pump. The pressure spikes from it igniting so fast can blow the headgasket, crack a piston, or blow the precombustion chamber out of the head if you run it hard enough.

Use a little to thin WVO, but you should avoid it otherwise.

I'd never run it in high %. Doesnt the age determine its explosiveness, and thus an aged gas should be less damaging to an IP? Like a finely aged wine. Put lots in, and IP.

Some components in gasoline evaporate and it thickens into varnish. I wouldn't even use it to thin WVO.

It's not how explosive it is, it's having no lubrication properties that causes damage.

Gas does not age like wine. After sitting a few months without treatment, it turns to varnish and won't burn easily.

It is a very good, but potentially dangerous solvent

We used to blend it 50/50 with waste oil in an old waste oil furnace for shop heat.

I guess you could mow a lot of lawns or mix it with a LOT of 2cycle oil and cut down a bunch of trees...
if the gas is in tankers sealed... no, nevermind, the tankers are vented... um. put 25 gallons in 55 gallon tanks, and strap a grenade to it... BOOM!!! spectacular...

I wouldn't use old gas in any internal combustion engine. Best suggestion so far is to use it as weed killer (but don't tell the EPA).

Hmm....I found a quart of RUG in a container (closed 2 gal fuel can) in my garage that I had used to thin SVO in the summer....so I just poured it in my tank....I then added 5 more gallons of diesel following adding the rug. I doubt it will even notice it. whats a quart of gas vs 20 gallons of diesel (tank is/was full)

I don't believe that gas goes completely bad over time. We've left our lawnmower, outside, burried in snow, with a mostly full tank of RUG all winter long, come spring, I prime it a few times, and fire it up, generally starts on the 1st or second pull, lets you know for 15 seconds or so with some blue exhaust, then it clears up and runs great. I then change the oil once the engine is hot. I use 5w30 Valvoline dino oil in our mower. (5.5hp Briggs&Stratton Intec engine)
