Touareg V10 TDI

Saw a Touareg V10 TDI today in Santa Monica, didn't know they were available
in California yet.

Now just waiting for the Audi Q with the V12 TDI, same engine as the LeMans cars. Will only cost you $120K, not bad for a "LeMans car".

Heh, a pair of 617's tied together with Direct injection!:silly: :idea2: :idea2:

I have yet to see a V10 TDI, and I've been watching for two years now.

They were at the VW dealership here in Austin (Charles Maund) about two months ago. They had 3 and they were all $3k *higher* than MSRP (that's $69,999), something about market inflation, blah blah blah.

Went there about a month ago and yes, they were gone. I think I'd rather have an ML CDI, though I don't know much about either one except that the ML is substantially cheaper.

I am fairly familar with these V10 TDIs (not the mechanical aspects, just have driven several). In fact, I work at a dealership which has 2 2006 pre-owned TDI Touaregs available right now. I'm not here to advertise, I'm just a mechanic, but PM me if you can't live without one... gotta say, the torque is unbelievable. I mean Shelby GT500 style push-into-the-seat as the twin turbos spool up (actually, it does sound something like a pair of 617s drag racing- dual exhausts and audible turbos...)

Awesome!

Saw one going down Las Vegas Blvd yesterday!

I saw one for the first time yesterday driving down the Las Vegas Strip - they're really cool! I think it was Diesel Power magazine that rated it as one of the best 10 diesel engines in existence. Of course that's just someone's opinion, but it does seem to be a heck of a machine!

Id love to take one for a spin...

Here are pictures of one towing a 747!!! http://www.autoblog.com/2006/11/22/touareg-v10-tdi-tows-a-747/

The Touareg pulled the 747 for 150 meters at 5mph and managed to stop the 200 ton jetliner with its stock brake system!

Now, that is German engineering!

I don't think they are, you have to bring a used one in from another state.A guy i work with brought one in from NV, had about 15,000 miles on it.

I drive a diesel for the fuel mileage and torque. The toureg is a nice beast but gets lousy fuel mileage. If you want that much torque and are willing to pay that much for a diesel with that poor of mileage you might as well get a heavy duty pickup trimmed out nicely. Mercedes has the right idea with the 3.0 and 4.2 (hopefully coming 2008) diesels.

true, and the sad part of it is that VW has a R5 TDI and V6 TDI version of the touareg as well. Of course not available in this country but available in just about every other country:mad:

I was just going to mention that too. The V10 TDI is hardly very practical for the average joe. I mean, 400 lbs of torque??!!! The V6 TDI Touareg is where it's at for more everyday use, and even then I don't know if I could justify a V6 SUV for everyday use :D

DieselJim 11-29-2006 01:37 PM

Lol I doubt many of us without a family can justify an SUV. I would just like something that I can haul a boat to the lake or a trailer with to lowes, home depot or whatever and enjoy driving to work. That is why I will hopefully get a CDI driven SUV in the next couple of years. I don't know what the transmission and suspension can handle but I bet the motor could pull the same as a typical low end 3/4 ton pickup.
