Correct fuel consumption for SDL??
Hello all-
I am getting around 23.5MPG on the freeway going around 85mph in my 86SDL. Is that about correct? The car seems to run well and only puffs a little black smoke when you hit the throttle from a low speed or under hard acceleration on the freeway. 0-60 takes a bit under 12 sec but I was at 3500 feet of altitude when I did the test. I am not an "economy" driver and tend to cruise at high speeds. I just read about people getting way more economy and wonder if there is a problem. -Alex |

Sounds about right at that speed. See how good you can get at 65 or 70. Easiest way to make sure you are getting as good mpg as you can, set your tire pressures.

I'm getting consistant 27 MPG, with mostly highway driving at 70-75 MPH and some stop and go driving. Strictly on the road, doing 70 or so, I can get close to 30 during the summer. Even on trips, running 80/85(with A/C), I've never gotten below 26 MPG...

The most we'd ever get on long trips is 25 mpg. Depends on tire pressures, IP timing, injectors, fuel quality, and other little variables like dragging brake calipers and such.

Thank God I have the 300d. I get about 36 mpg on the highway.

My '86 SDL runs 21-24 mpg in varied driving. I probably should tweak the pump timing.

I can get 29.5 out of the '86, but, that's on summer fuel, speeds below 70mph, and no a/c.
It's currently down in the 27 range due to the winter fuel up here. 23.5 sounds about right if you've got winter fuel and you're pushing 85mph. Takes a lot more fuel at that speed. |
