Poll: Who's had a w124 fuel leak in last two months?

I've had two - my mechanic has four in his shop currently. I'm starting to wonder if this is related to the new ULSD.

The delivery valve seals in my '98 let loose after my second confirmed tank of ULSD was run through it a couple of weeks ago...to me it is more than a coincidence.

Still, the car has 140K miles on it and is probably due for having them changed but I strongly suspect ULSD pushed them over the edge.

I had two fuel leaks a couple of months ago....replaced injector seals and something else (I forget what). Also had oil leak (front crank seal) going at same time...it was quite a mess!

Makes me wonder what in fuel system will give way next.

You might want to clarify what type of fuel we are running. I am running no less than 25% biodiesel. Sometimes I run as much as 50% biodiesel, 25% filtered used cooking oil, with 25% ULSD.

My fuel lines in the engine compartment were replaced by the PO with standard new fuel lines. I replaced the injector return lines with viton. The o-rings on my spin on filter are viton. I have a new viton o-ring for my tank screen, but have not installed it yet. (I sell these on my website, www.fryerpower.com)

The lines back at the tank have not been touched. The injector pump has not been touched.

No leaks so far.

I've got a ladyfriend with a '95 E300 with 200k+ miles. Leaks have sprung up within the past couple months from around the injector nozzles at the IP.

POS,

That's a shame, but its your choice.

You are probably not open to replacing the buna o-rings with viton ones either since MB did not spec them for your car 11 years ago.

The little fuel return lines on the injectors were leaking when I took delivery of a 1987 300DT last month. My mechanic replaced the lines; end of leak. Doubt that it was related to ULSD but rather poor maintenance by the PO. I'll switch this one to biodiesel soon and add it to my signature. It is to be my wife's daily driver.

Don't be so quick to judge. Not all of you biodiesel guys are smarter than the rest of us.

I know mine's no 124 but a '99 210 is close enough

After a year on B100 the shutoff solenoid o-ring gave in with half a tank of ULSD (happened right away, fuel leaking on the garage floor)....
Seriously, no problems at all on biodiesel, i swear the engine is quieter too.

(Edit: I guess his and he should be replaced with your and you. )

Hey, it's his option to do what he wants to his car. I'm not going to beat him up over it. He just seems to fall into the group that believes that if it was meant to be it would have been issued by Mercedes Benz. I fall into the group that is willing to try new things and take responsability for my own mistakes if I end up screwing up my car/engine. I just think it is a bit harsh to throw down the gauntlet with a statement like "I won't use biodiesel." It carries a connotation that the person making the statement views biodiesel as a curse and would never sully their fuel system with the evil Methlesters.

Some people are traditionalist. Some people are early adopters/tinkerers.

We all have our thing. I'm into biodiesel more because I think it is cool as heck that it can be done. I was making biodiesel for 6 months before I ever bought a diesel car. I had 200 gallons of biodiesel in barrels ready to be used by the time I had the car!

If I remember right that o-ring is a known weak point, but biodiesel surely helped it on to an early grave. Replace it with one made of viton and you will not have an issue with biodiesel or ULSD.

Its replacement is viton, a year ago when i started running biodiesel in the car i made sure to replace all the rubber fuel components with viton, that o-ring probably wasn't replaced though 'cause it's "buried" inside the IP.
