i just purchased a 1979 240d 4 speed in great condition, but it has not ran in 1.5 years -it was running when parked. after charging the battery and changing the filter, what should i do to get it on the road. -or started
also, can you tow the car with a tow dolly -200 miles? it's a beauty. will post pictures when i get it home |

I would do the following for a new-acquisition that's been sitting:
1) Engine oil/filter change 2) Trans fluid/filter change 3) Rear diff oil change 4) Air filter 5) Fuel filters 6) Drain existing fuel from tank, replace the strainer, fill with fresh fuel. 7) Valve adjustment That should get you going and at least let you know where you stand. If the car's been well-cared for, that may be all you need!

To tow it, you are better off using a rental that allows you to get all 4 wheels of the ground, or tow with the front wheels on the ground, or disconnect the driveshaft.
You should also change the fuel filters as well. If the fuel tank was near empty, then get some Startor diesel fungicide from a marine place.
