1985 300 sd Question
I have a 300sd and I blend my fuel. I have read that the fuel should be 160 degrees at the injectors. I have ordered the fuel injector line heaters. Can any one explain to me how the fuel delivery system works? Suggestions and comments welcome.

Your question is a little broad. Maybe this little bit of info will help. The injection pump has small "pistons" with a special shaped cylinder. The fuel rack rotates the pistons and changes the "size" of the cylinder and therefore the amount of fuel in the injection pulse. On top of the IP is a delivery valve that "holds" the charge in the line above the injector until another pulse causes an increase of pressure to overcome the injector spring.
With all of the factors of moving parts in both the Injection Pump and the Injectors, and blended fuel, you need to make sure the fuel is heated before it gets to the pump. Therefore, heating the hard lines is only part of your heating requirements. Also, the viscosity increase with lower temps will make the system work harder to push fuel through the filters. I am not sure if this answers your question, and may have been overkill, but let us know if you need more help.
