Fram Oil Filter Observation

Over the past 14 years, I have used a variety of oil filters in my '82 300D; usually Mann or Hensgst, along with a couple of the "Made in India" models. I recently purchased several Fram CH2930 "Made in Turkey" filters, thanks to the great deal offered (perhaps unintentionally) by Manny, Moe and Jack, which I learned about on this very forum.

In the past, my idle oil pressure (once warmed up) has been around 1.2 - 1.5 bar. (New o-rings on the oil filter pipe did result in a slight increase.) With the Fram filter, my idle oil pressure is now a solid 2.0 bar. There has been no change in oil type or operating conditions.

What should I make of this?

Very odd, I am using an OEM filter (both of our cars are) similar oils: Mobil 1 5w40 and 0w40 (same at operating temp) But the '83 idles around 1.9-2.1 bar at idle and mine idles around .8 to 1.7bar at idle. Both peg to 3 instantly when throttle is applied. Both have relatively new o-rings in the housing. I don't get it.

I am switching back to a Hengst filter in a day or two on both cars as they need their oil changes....we'll see if there's any pressure difference.

Perhaps that wound string in the Turkish Fram offers higher flow resistance? Not sure if that'd necessarily be a good thing though. Thats also in the "low flow" part of the filter anyways so I would doubt it'd affect pressure. The bottom part of the filter is the high flow part....maybe the Fram one is more dense?

Maybe the old filter had some particals in it?

It would explain the more resistance. All that matters is that it reaches 3bar BEFORE the car revs to 3k.
