Incredibly strange light problem.

Heh. Here's one for you guys, because I've been scratching my head for about a year and a half trying to figure it out..

I have an 84 300D Euro, with the manual climate controls (I swore I'd never get another automatic climate control w123 ever again). Mine is of the Left-Fan-Right controls. Now for the problem. All the lights work. The fan light never has a problem, nor does the right-side controls. The LEFT side controls, have a strange issue. Unless the thing is turned to a precise setting, the light goes out.

Even stranger yet, the controls seem to work just fine, so it isn't disconnected or anything. If I turn it to full-hot, the left side of the car becomes an inferno. What would I fix / look at, to determine why I constantly have to fiddle with the control to get the light to stay on (the light is almost never on, when the control is a full-hot). Maybe I have some sort of OCD, because it bugs the hell out of me to have that light out, when I KNOW the bulb is fine. See my profile for a picture of the controls.

Only other problem the car has, is that the temp. gauge has a tendancy to mis-report the heat of the car. The car runs the usual 80-86C, but the temp gauge will sometimes climb to 105, fall back to 84, jump up to 90, stay there for 15 minutes, and fall back to 87 or so. Oddly enough, I'm fine with it. The radiator and water pump were just replaced, so it's not TOO big a concern. Nonetheless, if you guys have advice on that, it'd be appreciated as well!

Thanks in advance!

For the temp. guage, check the wiring connection to the sensor. It should be near the middle of the head and close to the glow plug wires. Also, check your eng.-chassis ground strap as I've found that this is one of the indications I saw when it was loose.

Sorry, not familiar with the manual climate controls.

Heh, at least I don't feel *totally* clueless. Seems as if I've stumped everybody here, too!

..or maybe it just got buried.
