Under the Dash Hose (With Picture)

I pulled the glovebox out on my '83 300D to swap temperature controllers and noticed that the hose in the pic seems to be missing a center section. Maybe it's supposed to be open on both ends, but I'm not sure. Take a look at the picture and see if something is out of the ordinary. Thanks!!

Temp sensor hose

That is the hose that goes to the temp sensor on top of the dash for the auto climate control.

No clue why that center section is made of foam but they all deteriorate into nothing.

Replace it with a section of foam hot-water-pipe insulation from Home Depot. I used that and it works great with some duct tape along the slit that's cut down the insulation tube. Fix should cost about $2 for the length of foam insulation.

My thinking is that the foam is there to help prevent temperature conduction of the hose and get a more accurate actual air temp.

I used foam insulation hose to fix mine, works great. Cateaux used a rubber hose and says it works great too. Choose your weapon as you like.

Not only an easy fix, but your ACC will work much better. Mine was going hot to cold til I replaced that.

Don't know why it is foam. No one on the forum has figured why it is foam. So replace it with a hard plastic tube that will last forever. I did it and have never had a problem with the hard plastic. All it does is allow the flow of air from the sensor to the fan.
