There's a medical doctor on MrLandlord who claims it is cheaper for him to do his own plumbing than it is to work for the same amount of time in his medical practice and then pay the plumber.

It feels good to have skills worth that much doesn't it.

Kerry, you should be a millionaire by now..........just doing plumbing projects

I've taken on a new responsibility due to the incompetance of the oil burner "service technicians". Replace the Beckett burners with all new parts with new pumps set to 125 psi. Replace some of the old combustion chambers.

Found a guy up in CT that helps me out..........rebuilds the entire unit for $100........a fantastic price.

Hmmm........I've heard a joke along those lines.

A plumber produced a bill of $300 to his customer, a local physician. In shock, the physician exclaimed " For an hours worth of work? I'm a doctor and I don't make that kind of money!"
To which the plumber replied " When I was a doctor, I didn't make that kind of money either."............

Doesn't anyone remember Frasier??

On that show, there was an episode where Niles (psychiatrist) had a plumber out, and somehow the topic of conversation went to MBs.

The plumber said something about trading up to an S-class.

Niles said, incredulously, "You have... the BIG Mercedes?!?"

But really, as the shop I work at is having a sewer main replaced, i can't argue that plumbers ought to be well paid. Would you *really* want to dig in that stuff? Contrast it with India where they just make the "untouchables" clean the sewers...

Never did the glow plugs in the SD, I had the in house mechanic do them. He did them while I was at work so I could have a car that night, thanks dad!

Cost me whatever the glow plugs cost, what $60? And a dinner for about $30.

No doubt. I reckon I'd need to be payed a lot to constantly be up to my elbows in other people's poop.

as a semi-retired HVAC tech, I got called to do several pluming jobs, and "digging in other peoples poop" is where I draw the line. Drains, water lines, NEW sewer, sure... repair used stuff??? nope, "make another call"

Yeah, when I got my SD, I fondly recalled the "you got the BIG Mercedes" line from fraiser... classic!

Thats an awesome quote! I bring it up sometimes and it just annoys people.

I did my glowplugs in august (one burned out so I did all of them... ) took me about and hour and 15 mins, didn't remove anything on the engine to do it. Hurt my hands quite a bit, oh well. (They are a *tad* too big to fit down in those small spaces)
