What's it worth: 95 E300D 173K miles

I am considering selling my 1995 E300 diesel and getting a 2001-2002 E320. (edit 2000-2002 E320)

I bought the car in 2001 with 86K miles. The car now has 173K miles.

I have done the following to the car (and have the dates/records):

-Shocks/struts + alignment-tie rods, control arm bushings, rear suspension links + alignment
-replaced o-rings in fuel lines
-replaced fuel return lines
-front and rear calipers/rotors/pads
-upgraded front speakers: rainbow audio
-frequent oil & filter changes
-frequent fuel filter and pre filter changes
-changed AT fluid
-replaced belt and belt tensioner
-glow plug relay July 2006
-glow plugs. One plug got stuck so the head came off to get it out. Of course head gasket was changed at that time. Timing chain checked for "strech" at that time and was within spec July 2006
-water pump and thermostat replaced. August 2006
-ASD lines replaced. ASD/PS pump rebuilt. Dec 2006
-tires replaced January 2006
-windshield replaced twice
- left rear window regulator replaced
- front left fender replaced. A rust spot emerged on the fender so I purchased a new MB factory fender, had it sprayed and replaced. Color match is close to perfect. No other rust on the car. I have before and after pictures.
-motor mounts replaced

Very nice looking!

With all that work you did, why do you want to sell? I would keep on driving it, especially since all those repairs were made.

The E300D does a great job going slow and I get 32mpg consistently with a mix of gridlock and highway driving. On longer trips I see 37mpg.

I'd like to get something with a bit more power. I test drove a 2001 E320 and the difference is like night and day.

I'd really like to get a 1998-1999 E300 turbo but don't want to worry about stuck glow plugs and rusty spring perches

This year I've put about $7K parts and labor into the car. Of course I'll never see that money again but would like to at least "break even" for the year. With many of the common issues with this car already sorted I don't want to "give it away" but at the same time I'm realistic that the car is 12 years old with high miles.

I am interested in hearing from folks that have been watching the market...what are these cars selling for. I didn't see much on EBAY that is comparable.

I found these two on ebay, one active and unreasonable... one closed and sold. both with about 1/2 your mileage...
I am sure you could get 5500 or so for it. possibly 7K or higher considering the work you have done... I wish I had the funds, it looks like a nice example.

Look up info in the blue book for your area. Also, find out what an MB dealer would give you on a trade in. Take that trade in value and double it. Having all the records helps hold or boost value.

Unfortunately (for sellers) the price of the MB diesels in this year range has been dropping significantly over the past few years compared to the W123's whose values seem to be slowly going up. I bought my W210 less than two years ago for 14K on Ebay and recently I couldn't even sell it for 12K even though I've put in many thousands of dollars in repair and maintenance. Now I'm actually somewhat glad that it didn't sell because I still like the car a lot, and I would probably miss it if I no longer had it. If you can afford it maybe you should keep your diesel in addition to the new car.

The updates to the W210 chassis ocurred in 2000, and remained the same until 2002.

I'm curious as to why you're limiting your search to 2001-2002 model years.

I thought I read that the updates were made after 2000, so thanks for this info.

2000-2002 W210's are indentical. There is actually one small change in the instrument cluster screen. There is one additional sub-menu in 2001-2002 models that shows the speed digitally.
