Tranny dipstick
The manual for my 300SDL doesn't say how much ATF it takes to bring the level from the min. mark to the max. mark.I'm afraid of overfilling.Does anyone know how much fluid it takes to bring the level up,say, 1/4th of an inch?? Thanks for any help here.

You're in luck, I just received some new reading material.....
G'mornin',
While I was doing a bit of digital Christmas shopping, I purchased myself a copy of "Mercedes Benz Technical Companion" on Amazon for $26.xx (I forget the change amount). I was browsing it last night and I just happened to stumble upon the answer to your question...... Ref. Mercedes Benz Technical Companion, page 11.... "All W126 series cars..........The distance between maximum and minimum marks on the dipstick equates to about 0.3 liter (10 oz)......" There is a buncha info relating to checking the ATF.....and I have only breifly browsed this article......but from what I have learned, so far.....apparently there is some debate about the accuracy of checking the ATF.....we are supposed to be checking the ATF when the transmission is hot....80 C (176 F)....the marks on the dipstick are designed for accurate measurement when 80 C.......there is a nice chart and instructions on checking the ATF when the fluid is cold......20 C (68 F) - 30 C (86 F)......and about the improved accuracy of checking ATF when cool.....
