96 E300 Eng Shut Off problems

Occasionally when I shut off my 96 E300 the engine RPM will increase momentarily before shutting off any ideas what this may be? It seems to be happening more often so any ideas would be appreciated.

Could be a sign your shut-off valve is starting to fail but a more likely candidate is some sort of leak on the fuel delivery. When the shut-off valve is disengaged (car turned off), the shut-off valve switches 2 fuel paths simultaneously such that the lift pump "sucks" the remaining fuel out of the inlet to the IP. A bad shut-off valve O-ring on this inlet or possibly some air on the vacuum side of the fuel delivery could be the culprit.

I don't think there's electricity or hydraulics involved. All vacuum baby.

Yes. Is has to be energized to start the car so no vacuum here. I had the same delayed stop a few times before I changed the O-ring on mine and it has cleared up for me.

Can you just do the shutoff valve alone? I would think that you are disturbing the lines that go into it and they might now leak.
