PIA alternator removal on W123
Is it just me or is the adjustment bolt a PIA to remove. I backed the adjustment nut all the way out and the threaded rod looked to me like it was starting to bow. Any tricks to getting this out? Do I have to pull the whole mount off? Thinking I'm grumpy and need to come back to this one tomorrow.
Thanks, Dave |
There are a couple of pivot bolts that do need to be loosened for it to move freely with the bolt, if those were tight I could see it possibly bowing or stripping the adjuster.

See the other recent thread on this topic. There's a bolt that attaches the alternator to the adjusting bracket which can be removed or the whole top adjusting bracket can be removed. It's easy to bend that bolt and it makes it impossible to move the alternator until it is removed and straightened.

I bent the nut/bracket out of the way, then I was able to flip the threaded rod out and pull the bolt. Wacky man.
