Is Zerex G-05 any good?
Got a new radiator and need to fill it, is it ok to use this stuff until I can get the benz stuff in it?
It looks like the stuff in it originally was green, and I am sure there is some left in the block, is it safe to mix these 2 types? |
Just use the Zerex. It meets all MB standards.
|
Im not sure if it is wise to mix the Zerex MB stuff with the green stuff thats in your engine block. I'd either get rid of all the green **** and add Zerex or just change the green stuff annually. I, unfortunately, have the green ****.
|
Flush the system with water to clear all the green stuff. Don't forget to drain the block as well.
|
Does anyone know of a place to order it online?
I think this might be the one product that you can't order! |
I've purchased the Zerex stuff at Pep Boys before. I'm sure it is available at other places as well.
|
There isn't a Pep Boys anywhere near here.
Does anyone know of a place online that sells it? |
You can get the MB coolant from this site. Not real cheap though.

NAPA and Autozone carry it as well as Pep Boys. best price I found it so far was Autozone. Good luck. |
In my neck of the woods, only Pep Boys had it, not NAPA. Search the threads for info on flushing the system with citric acid. It will help to clean out any junk that is in there. Also remove the block drain and the thermostat and really put some pressure through the block and wash 20+ years of crud out of there.

I can't tell you what kind of crap came out of my w114 when I flushed it. Frightening.

Try Carquest and O'Reillys as well.
Not a good idea to mix green stuff with Zerex/MB, two different chemistries. Can set up corrosion problems you don't want to deal with. FWIW, mine runs 5 C cooler on average after flushing out the green crap and putting in 50/50 Zerex/distilled water. You can buy distilled water in 1 and 2.5 gallon jugs at most grocery stores now, Food Lion in particular. IMO, I'd do a full flush and get rid of the green stuff altogether, then replace with Zerex G05/MB. |
In this neck of the sticks, there's Advance and NAPA.
Neither carry it. |
