When I bought my 1979 300cd it occasionally made this noise that sounded like a relay kicking on and off under the hood. When I started it this morning, it was reaaaallyy cold, it made this noise when ever i was accelerating or maintaining speed, it sounded almost like a machine gun. But as soon as I let off the gas it would stop. Has any body run into something similar or know what the possible cause could be? It seemed to do it a little less when everything was warmed up but it was definitely still there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That almost kinda sounds injector related.....does it run kinda rough or with a slight miss until its warmed up?

This may seem obvious, but you're sure its coming from under the hood, right?

my guess is a lifter tick but i dont know if the lifters tick the same way 603's do.

It's an injector, looks like the new cleaner diesel fuel is messing with our old cars.
