It's on top of the intake manifold.

its a boost pressure sensor for the overboost protection solenoid or something like that

It's a pressure switch that trips at 16psi, venting the boost signal to the injection pump. This prevents too much boost from damaging the turbo and/or engine if the turbo's wastegate fails.

||||
They hit the nail on the head. That wire runs back in with the glowplug harness and eventually makes it way to the over-boost solenoid on the firewall.
