Accidental BB in EGR ??

In the event that say a, BB (OR even a golf tee) had been shot from a gun and hit something, bounced off it, then lodged itself into the vac line attached to my EGR, would I notice any performance changes IF 'something' else was not found lodged in the EGR valve itself?

Actually, I was trying to create this scenario by pulling the line off the EGR valve and placing a tee into the line but did nothing to the valve port. I believe somewhere I read that I should notice softer 1-2 shifts. But alas, it'snot happening!

It won't be very noticeable but your engine will run cleaner and healthier in the long run.

EGR's are one of the worst things to ever happen to the diesel engine design. Like so many other emissions devices, they sacrifice so much to be a little cleaner out the tailpipe.

Death to the EGR!

I noticed some strange little rubber plugs on the end of the vac lines that normally go into the 2/3 valve on top of the valve cover.

I assume it must be some sort of mutation. Or perhaps I have witnessed diesel evolution??

That's it!

Lots of talk on here about the "box "on top of the valve cover BUT mine is an '85 and it doesn't have that piece of ballast!

Yeah I got this kit on my desk right now, I don't know where it came from, but it has this stainless steel plate that seems to bolt up to the intake right where the EGR is. I'm going to try it this weekend.

I did notice much improved shifting after that BB fell off the shelf in the bathroom and bounced into the vaccum line and replacing just about every rubber vaccum connection on the car...after which even the radio sounded better. Then some rabid raccoon must have invaded the shop and installed a solid plate under the egr valve for good measure and orginal appearance.

It is kinda amazing what a few BB's and about 2' of vaccum hose can do the overall performance of these cars.

I've actually noticed much harder shifting from 1-2 and from 2-3 under normal acceleration. Kind of like the back end is going to fall out. It was loud enough to wake my wife up.

Sounds great as long as I jump on the accelerator.

I also noticed that it does not happen when cold, only after 5-10 minutes once everything is nice and hot. Could this be a simple adjustment? Sounds like I need to search on flare shifting when hot and find which solenoid I need to disconnect. (There is one that reduces vacuum when the engine/transmission are cold so that the shifts are not too hard. That was only a problem on NEW transmissions.) It sounds like my car has ticks and fleas. The solenoid needs to be disconnected so that I have consistant vacuum to the transmission cold or hot, and the then bowden cable needs to be adjusted to soften my shifts. Hopefully I can do this without causing flare on the 3-4 shift.

All of this trouble because I dropped a BB or two...

I guess I better finish the conversion by installing the Testing rig before I mess with the solenoid and the bowden cable.

I dropped a BB in my EGR and it smokes like a mother ****er, lets just say that BB did not stay in there for longer than a few mile trip.

Anyone have any ideas why that could be? No smoke otherwise
