Look, if your service lit. calls cars of that vintage E300D so be it. Your need to prove your correctness is duly noted.
These cars are not referred to in that way, nor have they ever been. It is that simple.
Not sure what all the Reagan stuff was about. I had tired head by then. Just join in with we yanks, as usual.....
That's it darn it! I've been called a lot of things in my lifetime that I absolutely hated, BUT IGNORANT????? Never!

Yea, but wasn't it great to see Jane Curtain and Dan Akroyd, and know what was about to happen. And when she tore her shirt open, my high school pants would get up and run around the room..........

It's been used retroactively to describe previous W124s and, yes, sometimes, W123, but this is informal, of course.

I have a 1988 brochure that calls both 260E and 300E "300-class." Nobody called these cars "E-class" despite the E in the model designator.

As for "entry level"--when there are only two model lines, one has to be the lower, and that wasn't the S-class. WHen it became three--with the arrival of the W201 (190-class) the new boy became the "entry" model. Since the W201 came before the W124, the latter was never "entry level."
I agree completely.

Many folks refer to the midsize vehicle manufactured prior to 1994 as the "e-class". They are typically confused by the "300e" designation.

But, the vehicle never had a proper "e-class" designation until the models properly changed in 1994.

The 190 was in a similar situation. It was never a "c-class" vehicle.
