HID's on my W124

Finally got around to installing the kit. But currently only have the low beams connected, the high beam halogen needs to be wired with a relay to work but i dont need them right now so ill finish that off later.

Anyway, my thoughts on the lighting......amazing. Much better clearity on the road! and now ive gotten to test them in the rain and damn what a difference they make! With halogens the light seemed to fade away into the rain and was pretty hard to see. Had to do alot of eye squinting, with the HID's the light is much more dense and therfore it doenst fade away in the rain.

Its a good thing to, because if i didnt have them installed i would have ran over the possum that tried to run across the road.

To take care of the glare problem i did what mike did to his W124 as posted in this thread. post #76
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=66804&page=6&highlight=w124+hid

But instead of moutning it on the light blub i removed the glass from the euro lense and mounted it on the whatever you call this(highlighted in red):

(all repsects to dave m's pic)
I used the metal plug from a set off my dads 65 mustang, now thats putting old junk to good use!

Anyway, here are some shots of what the HID's look like. All crappy pics but i tried my best at it.

on "spark up"

Once warmed they are a 5000K bright white.

beam of light

some shots "on road"
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b205/greasybenz/P1020217.jpg

tree was in the way but the car is about a 2 feet from where i took the pic so the light distance is pretty far.

The kit, cost me $170 from a guy who sells them in san leandro. The ballasts have a lifetime warranty and the bulbs have a 1 year warranty.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b205/greasybenz/P1020211.jpg

The kit was plug and play. absolutely no cutting of wires! just plug everything in to their corresponding connection. Only thing that will need to be wire up is the relay for the high beam.

The high/low bulb look like this

damn, lights that come with their own ballasts.

Does the kit come with the relay, extra wiring and instructions for the high beam retrofit?

That's really cool and looks great. Thanks.

Edit: Wonder if they'll work on the older US W124 lights (non-euro). I hope so.

I think it would melt the relfector as its a plastic reflector and the euros have a metal reflector. So you might be out of luck on that one

yeah that's what I thought.

What year did they introduce the non-plastic housings on the W124? 91, 92?

Got any contact info on the retailer of those HID kits?

94-95 seem to be the only US spec with metal reflectors. Otherwise you can buy euro headlights on ebay for your W124.

How so? i controlled the glare problem which is what bothers people with HID's. Ill get a pic of what it looks like if the car was coming towards you to show you if there is a glare problem.

A better way to show the glare problem (or lack thereof) is to show us the beam cutoff on a wall (I use the side of Wal-Mart, quicky lube area).

I've attached a pic of the cut-off of my car with euro headlights. Notice that there is STILL some glare. Car was 25ft away..

Here are some shots shamelessly ripped from Steverino at HIDPlanet.com Note that these are from a proper projector housing...

This thread has some good cut-off shots: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=174444
