Need info/input on these Euro headlights

1 Attachment(s)
Folks,

I may have the opportunity to purchase a car with these headlights.....price is a bit more than I want to pay for a parts car.....I have seen photos of these headlights on some Euro cars, AMG maybe.......would like some info on them, and an approximation of their worth......as I stated in another thread here, I am intending to go to H4 lights ......but this could be an option.....
Attachment 39769
...if the price is right......any info will be helpful, I have never seen these lights in person on any vehicle.....but both sides seem to be in good shape from the photos, and they supposedly work.....so all hardware should be present.....

Thanx,
SB

Those are the Euro lights and they utilize H4 lamps.

They sell OEM for about $600 new and aftermarket for about $200 new and anywhere between $125 and $175 used for the original OE Bosch lamps........depending on condition.

Are those prices each or for the pair/set??

Have any of y'all had any experience with the foglights......how do they compare to the Amber colored ones??

Thanx,
SB

It can get quite foggy up in th' hollers hereabouts.......and I have seen some pretty dense fog in the English Channel and North Sea.....so the Euro ones should be quite good......

You can get the yellow H3 lamps for the foglights that will give the desired result.

It doesn't get too foggy in the south, but the one time I had to use them they were amazing. Went from just barely being able to see the road to easily being able to drive 40 comfortably.

Can't compare to the amber ones... the bumper fogs that come on the W116 are pure crap though. Tossed those a while back.

If you want genuine European headlights, get the Bosch/Hella. The Depo/TYC/Katmac are aftermarket European style headlights, not the genuine units but work similarly.

Now, this is my opinion only Glen, but being a W123 guy, I just enjoy the round insect looking headlights on our cars. Gives them a personality that is lost a little with the Euro style. The Euro's look good, and even have a certain coolness factor, but I believe something is just lost on the W123's without the rounds....
I think Euros on the W116's and the W126's look much better.
Weird point of view, but just thought I'd throw it out there. You can get H4's that are round.......

Jimmy, there are also round European lights, but those were designed for earlier model w123s and in some countries, are dubbed as "lesser" than the square European headlights that the later model w123s had. Even rarer are the round Euros with amber fogs!

I kinda sorta feel that way.....

G'mornin',

I know exactly what you're sayin'.......am considering what the value of this particular car is....to me.....I think those lights look kinda neat, but!!!.....at the same time, a set of H4 Euro lights would be about a $100 plus on the purchase of this particular car.......it's kinda rusty in the areas under the rear doors......body is same color as my car,..... interior is almost white, no parts for me there......over all the entire car is kinda rough, but running......you folks know the curse o' th' Benz......I want it, but I don't know if it's gonna be useful......to me.......still doing a bit of research......:book:

Thanx,
SB

I hear you. I drive an 84 300D Euro, and whoever imported it (probably due to US laws) stripped the euro lights and stuck in the federals. The vacuum switch is still in the dash for controlling the beams, but of course, it doesn't do a thing. I considered buying a used pair of Hella Euros to "restore" my car back to the original Euro specs.. since that was all that was needed.. but I decided against it. Personally, I don't think these cars would get the rubbernecking and attention that they get, if it weren't for the "old looking" federal 7" beams.

Dont get me wrong, the euros have a nice look to them.. but I just don't think they fit the style of the W123 as well as the rounds do. So, I bought myself a pair of E-Code Hella H4 7" rounds last winter. Euro beam pattern and visibility, without the squared-off headlights!

Johnhef 12-29-2006 09:52 AM

I went for the visibility factor. My originals wouldn't light much of anything, so I bought a set of aftermarket euros. Vast improvement especially on all the backroads around here for seeing deer and such.

mybenz123 12-29-2006 10:16 AM

These are the round Euros and where used on the
earlier models.
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=161289
And these also use the H4 and H3 bulbs.

The other Euros where used on the 280E/CE because
they where the high option line of the w123.
Since in Europe you could get the 200,220,230 and 250 gassers
and 200D,220D,240D,300D and 300TD.

MB switched to the later model headlights on all models
after '82(i think).
