'85 300D Pricing
This price looks high. What would market be for a car like this?

I looks to be in decent shape, but not great. The price should probably be closer to $4-5K based on the condition and the 200K miles (assuming it's mechanically good). I suspect it's been repainted. They also need to lose those stupid chrome wheels.

They listed a lot of repair work for a car owned by a "Mercedes Shop Master Technician. Kind of negates that point.
Price is as ridiculous as those wheels...... Paint looks nice, so does interior. (Pinkamino) I don't think much of folks that spray that shiny stuff all over the engine. Black is a fairly rare color, but a horrible one to maintain. Did I mention how ridiculous the price was........

Floor mats and an ounce???? ![]() I went and looked at all their cars on the website. Good grief they are high! You could get a '97 E320 for about the same price. 116K....... http://europeanmotorcars-ltd.com/showroom/97E320.htm

Paint
Is there any way to tell the original paint color by looking at the VIN?

pop the hood and look at the engine compartment unless he removed everything to repaint it the engine compartment will be a different colour. Plus their is a stamped piece of metal on the radiator support with a bunch of codes on it. The one with 3 numbers followed by an H or G is the paint code ID

There is a plate on the frame right in front of radiator, slightly on drivers side from middle. 3 digit paint code. it looks original if you look at firewall and shock towers...(original color, not original paint) For black, there should be an 040 or a 199 for the paint code...

I agree. I paid $3000 for mine and it is mechanically sound except I need to find out where this fuel leak is coming from, it needs a repaint because of sunroof rust damage and she is overdue for a major tune-up and the seat springs are weak, need replacing. Mine only has 180K miles. So after all said and done $5000 sounds fair for the Texas car.
Asking price is just greedy. Frankie
