How much was a brand new 300 SD in 1982?

Just curious, what was the cost of a brand new 300SD back in 1982? Does anyone know? Thanks!

The '85 300D I bought came with the original window sticker of almost $31,000. I imagine your SD was more.

I would estimate around 50k. The 300D cost about 30k.

My 300TD rang in at around 33K I think. My '91 350SDL was $53K. I think the W140's went way up the following year.

I would guess in '82 to be closer to the low to mid 40's.

Yup, I remember the base W140, the 300SE was $69,400, same price as a 300SD. If you wanted a 400SE, it was around 77,900, and then if you wanted a LWB W140, like a 500SEL it was like 93 or 94, and the Big Body 600 was almost 128 grand!!

50K seems a little steep, that might have been for a 500SEL, but I think that year, you could only get a 300SD or a 380 in a W126 in the US legally.

Our 1983 300SD was around $38500 that was with real leather, I remember the sticker...that compares to $73,542 in today’s prices.

When my mom bought her 1990 420SEL used in 1992 with 34K miles on it, paid 40K, and they gave us 10K trade in for the 300SD with 110K on it (shoulda kept it) :( the original sticker for the 420SEL was included with it, IIRC it was somewhere around 63 or 64,000 dollars, started life off as a VP's car with Bed Bath and Beyond, and then we bought it, still have it too!

My 1983 300D came with all the receipts including the purchase receipt and it shows $31,820 fully equipped.:greedy:

They made a LWB W140 Diesel in 92???

I thought in 92, the 300SD, 300SE, and 400SE were only available SWB.

My 1979 300SD came with the original sticker in October 9th 1979 (bill of sale):

US$ 35495.00

Adjusted for inflation about $90k, 2006 dollars. If they held there value you could just about trade one straight up for a base S320CDI.

Seems about right. I paid $39,000 and change for my 1983 300SD from New York City, which means with no cost of funds (try to always pay cash for a depreciating asset),
it comes to about $143.00 per month of use or $0.06 per mile capital expense.:greedy: .
In the next few years I may get that down to under $100 per month.

Note to self: stay healthy, live long. :tooth:

Mid $30s would have been my guess. My father paid $56,000 for his 500SEC in 1985.

MeinGreaseCar 12-31-2006 04:19 PM

Yup

My 85 300SD was 40k

gotta be a little under that in 82

the sticker on the 84 300sd (bought in Dallas) was $38K if I remember correctly - has leather - no heated seats
