My Engine Died Today - 240D Parts Available
Some of you may not have read or been involved in my previous post so I thought I would post a new topic. If you want to view the original topic here it is.
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=174660 It might sell the entire car as parts/salvage or I might part it out and sell here or on ebay. If you have a need for a part post or send me a PM. I attached a couple of pics in original thread (page 3) of the destruction. I have not decided what I am going to do so give me a day or so for responses. I will comtemplate all resonable offers. The car is located in Central Missouri 20 miles east of Jefferson City. |

Keep the car, buy another engine, do a transplant. Keep the old engine for traning on future jobs

That happed to my cheap project car too. I swapped in a turbo engine in a few days. Putting another 616 (240D) engine in would be even easier. Should be able to be done in a weekend.

Light or dark? Maybe a pic? I need some interior guts for mine, that's if you decide to part it.

Light tan. I will post pics if I decide to part it out. I am thinking about an engine swap if I can find an engine for the right price and think I am able to do so?

617 turbo is an easy swap.

Go for the swap. It's simple enough and it will keep one more W123 on the road and out of the junkyards.

Ok, pending the cars actual physical condition as far as interior and body rot, if its a good body keep it and fix it. No sense wrecking a good one when theres plenty of bad ones out there for wreckin'. Do not let the swap idea intimidate you, I got my 240 having never touched an MB engine much less a diesel before beyone bleeding injector lines. Mine also had the #1 rod sticking out of the block (it now rests on my "wall of glory" in my shop with various other interesting memorabilia from past days ). The engines can be found at many wrecker yards cheap, just look for a car that appears to have been on the road recently and got smacked, rear enders are common insurance totals that wind up there. The engine I will say I found to be one of the easiest swaps I ever did. Hood doesn't need to come off, just pull the hinge levers and extend it straight up. Bellhousing bolts are a breeze to get at, and a set of stands or ramps gets you room to get at the torque converter bolts and engine mounts. I upgraded to a 617 5 cyl from a 300, so my swap took some light research and extra time, but in all I think I could have done the pull out and have it in and the main parts reconnected in a day or 2 with everything there. Just tag the lines you remove, not many need to come off to get it out, leave the old engine intact, it comes right out with all accessories on, and lets you build the parts onto the new engine piece by piece so as to know you got it right. Judging by your past posts it looks like you have mechanical knowledge and experience, and I think you would be more than capable. You need an engine lift, stands or ramps, some metric tools, and a set of metric hex key sockets (MB likes to use hex head capscrews on everything). If you decide to go with a bigger engine, theres a few parts that need to be changed out, still an easy job, and the engines are basically the same wit han added cyl, so most everything from your old engine will bolt right on to the bigger one.
