Strange Noise,

I am pretty sure this noise is coming from the alternator area, but last time i heard a noise that sounded like this, it was my vacuum pump. This time the noise for sure is coming from that side of the motor, from about the middle of the block over on the front seemingly above my alt which i just changed 2 weeks ago. I have included a link to the soundclip it should open in windows media player when clicked. http://www.geocities.com/StevenHamilton99/AUD_0002.ASF
This is my 82 300D Turbo with 138.8K
any comments or advice is greatly appreciated. don't know where i'd be without you guys.
-Steven

Old farts learned to take a wood broom stick & place one end on the iffy rotating part & the other on your ear. You'll be surprised at the vibrations. Just look out for all the moving stuff.

the sound is like scraping metal or continuous smacking against something. a bit of both.

That is not a high pitched whistle. It does sound more like a metal bracket like for example the ones that hold down the air filter housing lid, is loose.
I'm not saying that this is it. I saying that is what it sounds like.

I pulled the alt as its not big deal and was looking at it. and the metal fan like part was loose from the pulley meaning it was not properly tightened by napa when i had them swap the pulley. took it bad said tighten it like it should be. and reinstalled and she's just like new.
