Door-to-door shipping of an 20x20x20" box from the SF area to Metro Manila is about $60 regardless of weight. Well, the box shouldn't be so heavy that it falls apart. Takes about 6 weeks.

There ya go.
Not sure how to ship it, I guess USPS. It's less than 10lbs.

MB didn't sell cars directly in the Philippines in 1987 so any 87 MB in the Philippines was privately imported.
Most imported cars in the Philippines come from the US since most countries around the Philippines are RHD. The Philippines being a colony/protectorate of the US through WWII is LHD. I think Taiwan is the only other country in SE Asia that's also LHD. Sixto 93 300SD |

hahaha,
i've had 2 benzes here that had that california emissions crap. i had a 190e 2.3 from CA. The local benzes here are euro versions, so US versions are a rarity. All diesels i think of the 124 kind are all grey market. i may be wrong. Sixto, there are official benz dealers here even before the time of the 123. Commercial Motors to be exact. I think they're the official dealer here. i've been to the plant. last model they sold officially are the 124s, now they just carry Ssangyong, the korean "Mercedes" brand. they sell Vans that are rebadged as mercedes, there is absolutely nothing Mercedes about them. Most are equipped with OM602s, non turbo I heard about that 60$ door-to-door box. Just takes too long. Hitman, thanks again! i'm grateful. i'm contacting DHL to facilitate the shipping, whats your zip code? i hope i can return the favor... i have a bunch of those AC vacuum pods. i took them out from my 87 300TD, took out every single one, don't need them here. u want em? again thanks!

MB assembled 200s and 200Ds in the Philippines for many years, but not during the Aquino years. MBs were sold again in the 90s but I don't know if they were assembled locally. If the chassis number is of the form xxxxxx-5x-xxxxxx then it was likely assembled in the Philippines. Definitely not assembled in Sindelfingen.
Commercial Motors continued to be an authorized MB service agent throughout. Universal Motors was also in the picture at some point. The owners are brothers. Universal Motors shifted to handling Nissans in the late 80s or early 90s but maybe they continued their ties with MB. I overgeneralized = the three sources of imported cars would be private imports, dealer imports and diplomatic/ADB/World Bank/US serviceman cars. My perception 20-30 years ago was that most private imports were US spec cars. Sixto 93 300SD |
