I need someone that knows blower motors

Hi I have an 87 TDT and the Blower Motor was squealing bad. I ordered a new motor but B4 the new one arrived it burnt up. I have taken out the old and replaced with the new but have nothing now. I have power to the motor and I have bench tested the new one and it works fine. Someone did but a large amp fuse in the box so it did not blow when it should have. Where else do I look? I have read posts on the "CCU" unit but not sure what or where that would be. Is it possible that this was fried when the motor shorted? I also have read stuff about the aux water pump. Could the short have burnt the heater control? Everything worked great before the motor cooked. Any help would be great. My car is apart and it is winter here.
Thanks

Yep, sounds like the regulator if you got current from the buttons. Also sounds like the motor fried the regulator.http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=161703&highlight=blower

Here's one of the posts I was looking for..
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=113890&highlight=blower

The golden nugget from Art......(this should be in the DIY's)

"anyway, the reg needs a low voltage signal from the CCP in order to trigger the switching transistor in the regulator.. once that is done , the regulator completes the ground of the blower circuit via blu wire [ this is a switched ground circuit,.. in other words, rather than a normal switching of a Hot side .. the switching is done on the neg ground side of the circuit]
So , when you say you have power to the blower , if you just mean you have power to the red side of the blower , that is not good enough..the red side is always HOT.. you would have to have power to both sides of the blower for it to be a complete circuit.
That is where the reg comes in.

There is a couple of simpe test points to check if you have a meter or test lamp

Behind the brake booster , on the firewall, there is a 3 wire connector .[red.blk/yl] you should have 12v across red and blk, but you should also have 2-8 volts from yellow to blk [ or gnd], depending on the speed setting at the CCP.. this is the signal that goes on down to the reg and triggers it to let the blower circuit complete to ground. The reg does the heavy work, while the trigger does not have to carry that blower load. And by varying this low volts
trigger, the reg mirrors these inputs to regulate the speed of the blower.
If this test proves you have trigger V , then the reg is prob at fault, but there is one more simple test.
But ya got to get down in there for this test:
Two wires at blower , red and blu.. if you attach a jumper wire at the blu at the blower and ground it, does the blower run on high?? ...if yes , replace reg.
You can now see that grounding the blu side of the blower simply eliminates the regulator and its function , which is to ground the blu wire when the trigger sig tells it to..thus completing the blower circuit.
End of story"

Yup done all that. Seems to me I have reg issues. I can ground the blue and get high on the blower. Sucks to be me today.

I feel for ya, that's a big nut new motor and new regulator(did you get the cages on the motor?) I cheaped out on mine and bought the regulator from a bone yard for $35 I should have done the same with the motor.
Mine went in the winter also, I went and bought a 12v plug in auxillary heater for $20 while I found time to do the repair.

My new motor (with out cages) sits on the shelf. One of these days I guess I'll need it.

Probably the regulator

For God's sake, don't take my word for it, I'm a self-dubbed "mechanic-light". I can only tell you that I replaced my motor with one I got from a parts yard, for $20, and the regulator I had to buy new.

Both were a *itch to install.

Good luck.

The first time in is always the worst, especially outside in the middle of winter. I can get in out of there in 15 min now. just whish I had the special tool for those damn plastic star things

But... was it worth saving $600.00+ in parts and $300-500 in labor (a little less since you went new on the reg)

Well I have a small shop that is perfect for garden tractors ( I restore antique ones ) but the wagon will fit. I bought a new motor w/o cages and actually got the old ones off to the amazement of everyone. I am sure the reg is toast, it smelll burnt.

Nice to be indoors, especially where you are!
I think the message to get out of this thread is to address
a squeeky motor before it fries the regulator.

I'm a gravely nut, but all my tractors work, no show pieces.
All of them over 30yrs old and only has been opened
