I'm interested to know too. Also if you have the 3.07 and a manual how is the take off from a stop and mileage?

I have a 3.69 for now. I get about 22-24 MPG with the turbo 617. I think that the car would actually faster with a lower ratio rear as I do not get to effectively use the turbo in first and second gears.

When I swapped a 617.952 turbo engine into my '79 300TD w/ automatic trans the car had its original diff, I am pretty sure it was either a 3.46 or 3.69
I could slip the RR tire on acceleration if the pavement was wet and it was a blast to drive around town but on the road the engine RPM was too high for me so I put the 3.07 from my '83 into it (after I put a 2.82 inthe '83 )
Fuel consumption was not too good, maybe a little over 20 mpg but fuel was only about $1.80 a gallon back then
If you plan to use the car to carry a lot of people the 3.46 might be OK otherwise I suggest you will be wanting a 3.07 to match up to the turbo

i bet you have an automatic.

in my 240/300 na i had the stick and ended up with the 307 rear. it was tricky to take off as first was pretty high. of course with an automatic the torque converter would nullify that problem.

I had a 3.46 in my 300TD for a week before I took the engine out. I could tell the acceleration was much better but I didn't have enough time to measure MPG.
