300d, what other rubber and O-rings need replaced?
I have a '91 300d, had to replace the fuel delivery valve O-rings a while back, the power steering was leaking (hopefully some leak seal will continue to work; took it a while, but it is working now), and now looks like an O-ring by the STOP lever will have to be replaced. I hate having a new leak every month. Are there any other seals or O-rings that should be addressed?
Thanks, Jeff 1991 300d, 100k |

There are several oil seals in the IP = IP to block o-ring, IP side panel rubber gasket, IP bottom panel square section ring, IP rear cover paper gasket, idle actuator o-ring, shut-off actuator o-ring and shut-off lever o-ring. There's also an o-ring for the control rod sensor which requires the IP to come apart for replacement and a gasket between the main and rear case which also requires the IP to come apart. The parts diagram shows a front seal which I can't even see with the IP 6" from my nose. Not to mention the various crush washers like the one in the RIV port cover.
You can remove the IP to replace all the external seals and hope the control rod sensor seal isn't leaking. Or take it to a Bosch shop so the internal seals are addressed as well. Sixto 93 300SD |

Sometimes the ALDA fitting leaks too. I'm not aware of any seals there.

I forgot the lift pump paper gasket
The side rubber gasket and fuel pump paper gasket are easy to replace. The bottom seal is difficult to replace with the IP in place. The shut-off actuator o-ring is only as difficult as removing the shut-off actuator. I don't know what's behind the IP in a 602. In a 603 there's the cruise actuator which isn't difficult to remove. The idle controller in my 93 SD was a tight fit on the IP. It took a bunch of twisting an prying to get it out, and even more to get it back in with a fresh o-ring. Sixto 93 300SD |

So, you say then...
So, you say then to not do anything until they leak, huh?
Too many for me to keep track of. I just want to drive my MB, not be a mechanic. That's my pet peeve about MB's; they need too much repair. jeff |

Don't get too worked up about how many seals/gaskets there are. You only need to replace the ones that leak. And many of us just can't fight through every single leak.
It is weird, my '79 Chevy pickup, that I have had since it was new, still doesn't leak a single drop on the ground. Uhhh, of course under the dash leaks water, and has rusted out the passenger floor board.......
