When to Switch to Synthetic ATF

If/when I rebuild the tranny, I fully intend to switch to synthetic ATF. However, I may need to reseal the tranny in the not-too-distant future. Would this also be an opportune time to make the switch, or are there internal parts (i.e. something other than the seals) that might be adversely affected by the synthetic ATF?

Thanks.

That would be a great time to switch. I switched mine about a year after it was re-sealed, and its been great so far! I also switched our '83, which has never been resealed or messed with and it has also been fine. I say go for it! Its better for the tranny and shifts are better and it runs smoother. Well worth it.

What is the process of resealing? Which seals are being replaced? I have a leaky transmission. Any kits available?

I haven't heard of trannies springing leaks like engines when switching to synthetic ATF.

My 82 SD just had a full rebuild. $$ they filled it with recommended ATF. how many miles should I wait before switching to synthetic? none? 10K ?? I figured I would put a few hundred miles on it before bothering to switch.
opinions?

Wait at least until the warranty on the rebuild is over. If it were mine, I'd do it at the next scheduled ATF change after that.
