The department of transportation

I was on the way to school today, and thought to myself, what did the DOT do with all the euro bumpers, and lights they swapped for the imports...Anyone know?

Usually the owners of grey market cars had a shop federalize the cars. I believe that most of the shops just kept the old parts. I just recently bought a set of euro lights off of somebody who ran such a shop. The lights had been sitting around for 20 something years.

The seller was coolb3 if it helps you. I got a good deal on the lights but one lens was broken in shipping.

Most cars came into Texas and California. I haven't seen so many Grey Markets anywhere else in the US.

Also - These cars were all done by independent places. Like the black 745i I have came to a place called "Xotica Imports"

Shops did them. Most were probably re Euro'ed after they were registered.

I would guess that in part it has to do with the year of the car and the year it was brought over. The 1980 200D parts car that I have has the Euro bumpers on it. When I removed the instruments I saw a date of 1985 written on the back of the speedo so I am guessing that is the year it was brought over.

Guess so. Sorry. It ended up costing me another $55 to get a replacement lense because one was broken in shipping.

As I live out here in the boonies, I have lousy phone service from Verizon, and can only connect to the internet at 26.4 kb........I have difficulty in any e-Bay auction that comes down to the wire.......

No big deal...there will be more.....

You're not fated to necessarily lose the ebay auctions because of a slow connection.

Once you've decided your top price to pay for an item, you can set up a deal with e-snipe or one of the other sniper sections that will place your bid to win in the last few seconds of the auction

I've never used any of them, but they do work it's said..

I do know how you feel, though, I got in a bidding war over a rare stamp on ebay Germany, a long time ago, and beat out a bidder in Germany for it by 4 seconds

You may want to try Esnipe.com.....don't get in a bidding war! That will just drive the price up. Go to Esnipe, put in your max bid (proxy bid), then walk away. They will put your bid in @ the ending seconds....I believe the cost is about 1% of winning bid, free if you don't win.
