Those two wires are for the electric clutch on the compressor. So if they are severed that by itself is a total fault condition... First hook one of those to a ground...and just touch the other one to positive 12 volts... if the compressor clutch clamps...which you should hear... then those wires need to be reattached to the proper places before you go on with the other tests... because no matter how much of the rest of the system is perfect... if those wires can not activate the compressor clutch nothing is going to happen... |

I believe you have found your problem. I hope you have enough wire coming out of the clutch coil to rehook mthem. If now the clutch pully will have to come off and it usually takes some special pullers to get them apart. good luck |
The wires are severed in a way I can not even see where to attach them behind the clutch/pulley assemby. I wish I could put one to ground and the other to 12v to see if the clutch activates.
I have the pressure switch bridged right now so I believe it does not need to have any freon in it for me to just hear the clutch kick in. I will see how much freon is in the sytem once I get it up and running. Can I get the clutch assembly off while the compressor is still connected in the car? How do I go about doing this so that I can attach the wires to their correct locations? |
I am not familiar with the 87 300D but I don't believe there will be enough room to get the clutch disk, pully, and clutch coil off the front of the compressor with it mounted. There are special pullers needed for this job. If you could borrow the pullers, remove the mounting for the compressor but keep the hoses hooked up it may be possible to get the compressor turned so you can do the job. There are 2 snap rings on the front of the compressor. One has to come off and the other does not come off. If you remove the wrong one, the front seal will blow out (if it has freon in it) and could cause bodly damage (to you). If you deside to try this, PLEASE find some kind of manual and study up on it, or get the help of someone familiar with this job.
It can be harmful to your health. |
I am going to drive the car up to my trusty friends at Tif's foreign car care and get their opinion. Thanks for all of your help so far! It has been much appreciated!

Took off the clutch and the dowel that held the electromagnetic clutch in place was severed in turn chopping the wires. I just got a good used compressor cheap and it will be going in. Thanks for all your help.
