oil leaking from exhaust

I have noticed an oil leak from the exhaust side of my turbo, can anyone tell me what might be causing this before I start to tear into it?

I have been running stock exhaust but it ends at the union, so no muffler just a straight pipe.

I am thinking of putting 3in pipe from the turbo back. I just want to know if there is anything I need to do to the turbo before I do the 3in pipe.

Thanks Jon

Most likely the turbo seals are shot, dumping oil into the exhaust system and most likely intake as well. Another possibility would be valve stem seals. These are the only 2 ways for oil to enter the exhaust system.

oil is pumped through the turbo to cool it, I would check for an oil leak from this source of oil, not oil from the combustion area of the engine

617 motor in a jeep

The motor was out of an 82', The leak seems to be right at the flex pipe in the exhaust. There is no oil collecting anywhere else that I can see. Just a couple of drips on the ground and not a lot of smoke out of the exhaust. There is smoke at take off and heavy accel.

I knew about the oil feed to the top of the turbo for cooling and thought this was the first place to check, but just wanted to see if any one else has had this leak and knew of a quick fix or diagnosis.

Thanks Jon
