The introduction of the Thermoquad Carburetor mated to the "U" code 400's and 440's engines with the 18 to 1 air to fuel ratio electronic spark control system! (We loved the WAAAHH sound of the Thermoquad when you floored it!) Alternative fuels and emmission systems service and diagnostics. The Solid State Autotronic Eye.

Working for the Chrysler Corporation was some of the best times of my life! Standing on the accelerator in a 440 police interceptor on the test track to see how fast it would go was a thrill!! Then hoping the hydraulics department thought of getting a Royal Monaco stopped fast and praying they did their homework! Oh, and you get a smoother ride in a new Cordoba!!

Thermoquad... Who said Thermoquad.... this is a Mercedes forum.... ahh who cares, time for a little Hijacking!

I got a Thermoquad for my Charger! I love that Carburetor.
the charger was originaly a 2bbl 400 car, but the PO installed a foctory 4bbl manifold on the 400 and an elderbrock Carburetor. in the process of my restoration I'm going to a very factory look, but not sticking to the original equipment, so I decided to get a Thermoquad. that Carburetor whipped the floor with the elderbrock. and the kicker is I got the Thermoquad of ebay for 30$ including shiping and installed it with the cost of a rebuild kit. way better then the cost of that elderbrock.

So Thanks!

I'm currently helping a friend with his 72 Challenger Rally and I hope to get a chance to start working on the charger agian soon. It realy suck living in an apartment and going to college. I wish I could live in a garage.

If you dig around, you can still find some of those performance upgrades for the Thermoquad Carbs, BUT, (ok, so there's a but!! ) You need to have the Identification tag for a correct match to your Carb! It's not like it cant be done just by careful measurements of internal parts, like the forward metering jets. If you get lucky, your seller will remember what year and model he got it off of. Carter is now Carter/Weber, who is now making those older designs for Edelbrock and they might be able to help you too! Good Luck! I sure miss my brand spankin' new 1978 Cordoba! I ordered it new with the "U" code 372 HP engine, ram tune dual exhaust, 950 CFM Thermoquad, all options and a split sunroof! She was a beauty and would go like hell when you punched it! Took a Jaguar XJS with a V12 on my way home one night and that was even before the addition of Nitrous!

Not to prolong this thread, but I believe Packard had the first optional A/C system in passenger cars. I think in the early 40's

Most manual heater A/C systems engage the compressor for defrost and bi level or obviously when the switch is in the A/C mode. Climate control systems engage the compressor in every mode except for ECON. Or have a separate switch to turn off power to the compressor clutch.

Packard tried to put the first operational AC system but it never went past the experimental prototype. It was very unreliable and gave mediocre performance. Chrysler had a design too in 1940 available as an option on the 1940 Southampton edition Imperial with the LeBaron style body! It was expensive, but it worked well and Packard bought use of the license rights to it and Chrysler put it into the assembly line production in 1946. Chrysler was the first to stop producing cars for WWII and start helping in the war effort. GM was only behind by a few hours and was producing tanks and machinery for the allies. Chrysler came up with the first practical military grade truck that could take a beating and keep going. That truck was the W300 Power Wagon! With a little help from Chrysler, Willy's Overland produced the first Jeep CJ with a 60 HP inline 4 that was very good on fuel, rugged as hell and easy to service in the field and very durable. Designing AC systems for the war effort was one of Chryslers most forgotten achievement! Durable mobile systems were needed to keep medical supplies healthy and to dehumidify pre-op Mobile Army Surgical Hospitals in really humid climates to keep germs and bacteria down! That company founded by Chrysler became to be known as Air-Temp! Air-Temp made the most practical units for mobile cooling ever designed and the fact that so many older collector Chryslers still have a fully functioning RV-2 V-Twin cast iron Compressor in use today, even running R134 is a testament to the durability of the original design! There was even a smaller company Called Tiny Tiger that bought Chrysler AC Compressors to use as miniature V-Twin 4 stroke heavy duty small engines, mostly for stand-by on demand power generation and portable water pumping equipment for farmers! These were so durable that a few were even made into small diesel engines!! Yes, we had a lot of fun at Chrysler!!!!
