Replacing window motor?

I am replacing the window motor on my W123 - front driver's side. Do I have to remove the entire regulator, or is there a way to pull just the old motor and replace?

Steps?

Thanks, ryan

It's been a while, but I think there are 3-4 bolts that hold the gear to the motor. Might be able to get it off that way.

If its the same as the motor on an 83 300SD there are two screws holding the motor to the gear head. Remove the two screws and you can pull the motor down while turning it and it comes out. I had a bad motor and when I removed it I found the bottom bearing frozen to the shaft. I pulled it all apart, cleaned and lubed it and it works fine.

Great news, and nice pics. So there is still hope for a motor that isn't operating beyond just replacing it? Will be looking into this on my wagon as the left rear does not work (it's getting power).

Do you think all the window motors are the same (in a given car) or are they unique from depending on the door?

i dont know but i suspect they would all be the same. the gears might be different though.

i had the experience of finding one frozen too. lubed it and away it went!
