If the game gets called due to darkness tonight you will have to take over because Brian will be out of pocket till late tomorrow evening...
That should add some incentive to your cheerleading...

OK, got it.

Since the PO changed these lights to Euros, we've got to delve further into the individual sockets at the plugs.

Take a look at this diagram:

Do the plugs for the headights use one of these two drawings? Either the four socket plug or the six socket plug?

OK, excellent.

Now, go over to the plug and check out the colors of the wires that go into each of those sockets. Each socket is numbered on the back. Make sure that you are positive of the socket number.

Here are the colors of the wires that go into each individual socket on the LEFT side:

LEFT
1 - vacant
2 - brown
3 - grey/black
4 - white/black
5 - yellow/black
6 - gray/green

The first color is the main wire color. The second color is the color of the stripe on the wire.

It's very possible that the PO installed the wrong wires into the sockets. That would prevent proper operation of the lamps even with voltage at the plug.

Please take a pad of paper down with you and carefully note your results. With six positions and six wires, it's VERY EASY to make a mistake.

Here's what I found. # 1 Yellow wire, #2 Gray/Green, #3 Vacant, 4# White and # 6 Brown. #6 has two brown wires soldered to one plug.

Not surprising. It was wired by a genius.

What you need to do is to open up the plug and pull out all the sockets.

The yellow wire needs to go into socket #5.

The grey/green wire needs to go into socket #6

The white wire needs to go in socket #4 (it's already in socket #4 so just leave it there).

The brown wire (group of 2) needs to go in socket #2.

Good luck.

Here is what I don't understand....

Were they working ok before the rock hit them ?

That rock did not change the pin /wire arrangement on those connectors.

So how did we get from there to the PO having wired the connectors wrong ?

Ok re-wired plug. Turned on lights, the fog lights on passenger side(rf) came on. No low beam on either side. When pulled switch to activate the fog lights, the fog light on the LF came on as well. High beams don't work on either side.
I think I'm going to get a bulb for the (lf). I've got to go get my dogs some food, they're starting to look at me kind of funny.

Good question. But, the connectors are definitely wired incorrectly. I don't see how the left side low beam could have ever functioned with the wiring as stated. Furthermore, the ground socket is additionally in the wrong position and should, therefore, render the high beams inoperative. But, I'm sure it's possible that the high beams got a ground from one of the other wires.............

I Dunno, it could be just a coicidence that the problem of the lights surfaced around the same time.
I didn't mention that when I bought the car the PO stated that when he converted to euro lights, he(shop) didn't connect some bulb that wasn't legal. And that I could hook it up since whoever converted headlights wired it but just didn't connect it. At the time, I was too pre-occupied with my new car and didn't ask what he meant.

Good job.

We're making progress. The fog light on the left side is working correctly per the switch.

Now, go to the right side plug and do the same thing. The colors are as follows:

RIGHT
1 - vacant
2 - brown
3 - grey/red
4 - white
5 - yellow
6 - gray/green

Rewire the right plug so that the wire colors are in the correct sockets.

Then, we'll do some testing to see if the proper sockets have voltage when the switches in the cabin are activated.

I'll be travelling tomorrow and won't get back to the forum until after 9:30 EST. Do the rewiring of the right side and we'll pick it up again at that time.
