Mobil 1 15W-50 $14.99 for 5 quarts

Sorry if I posted this twice. Strauss Discount Auto has 5 Quart bottles of Mobil 1 15W-50 Performance Driving Formula for $14.99. It seems like a good price and my local store had plenty in stock. Does anyone have any experience with this oil? According to the bottle it is CF rated.

Mike

It is advertised in the circular in my area which is central Jersey. The only one on sale is 15W50. The store in Old Bridge has plenty.

I will go on line and find them as to other stores. I used to see their ad's in newspapers close to Camden, for the Phila stores but I have not seen them for quite a while.

Good Shopping

Is it CF-4 rated? If so, it's fine.

According to the bottle it is API Service SL, SJ/CF

I thought a CF rating was acceptable. Also do you guys think that it is ok to use in the Winter in the NJ/NY area?

CF rating is fine. Just dont push it over 5K. And its a group 4/5 synthetic you should be fine in the winter.

I know there is ALOT of discussion on oil but I gatta ask GreasyBenz on the 5K limit? When I purchased my '99 E300, I was floored by the MB dealer salesman & service manager, as they told me to change every 15K. I do it every 10K without any apparent problems.

What am I missing? The MobilOne is great stuff, let's let it do it's job. I also put on 3.5 K miles per month so time flys, and the oil is not sitting in the crankcase for very long.

I always get a kick when they say that the crude oil Must be changed every year minimum, Heck it sat in the ground for millions before we found it????

15W-any thing, even synthetic is a little stiff for the winter in my area. I go with a 5W-40 or 0W-40 in the winter here in NY for easier starting.

The reason he says 5K is that the older MBs add more soot to the oil than their newer counterparts. Once the soot content gets to 2%, MB says it must be changed. For some folks, that may be 5K mi, for others, it may be longer. 5K is also what's specified in the manual for the older cars.

Thanks Htownbenzoboy,
So is it better in the '83 300D to run regular oil and change it out every 5K, rather than synthetic and change that at 10K miles with the possible soot buildup??
A previous thread was correct they only have 15-50W, at least in So. Phila Stores
