Question 1987 W124 300DT brake pad removal

My indy says the brake pads on my wife's new-to-us 1987 300DT are worn and wants to replace them (at $100/hour!). From the DIY in the wiki section it looks like an easy job that I could do myself. However, when I pulled the right front wheel off to have a look-see, I couldn't find the "cross pins" mentioned in the DIY. I don't see how I could replace the pads without removing the calipers, although the DIY says you can. The pictures in the DIY are dark and I can't see how it could be done. Advice?
