What is the highest mileage 603

Who has the highest mileage 603, Im looking at a 87 SDL with about 614km 384K miles on it, Is that the highest?

How can I tell if this car is ready for the junk yard?

Where is the head number cast on the head, and how can i tell if the vacuum pump has been replaced?

First, what kind of shape is the rest of the car in? If it's pretty good, then even if the engine is tired, you can put another powerplant in it. I've got a low mileage one that had the oil pan knocked out of it, and the previous owner kept driving. It will have a used engine in it real soon.

They are really nice cars, even if you spend a few dollars to get it right.

I saw one at the mechanic's shop with 440K on it. The head came off due to a tensioning rail issue. The head was cracked in three places and the cylinders were definitely worn.

If you buy it, don't pay very much for it.

hes asking about 800 US, I dont really care for the SDL body, I already have one, but I need the parts, and the engine would be good for another project i have planned, possibly another 300 SDC. or a 300 CD.

Usually self-evident that a car is ready for the junkyard

The head casting number is just by the #2 injector.

The newer style vacuum pump has four screws on the front cover plate.

Would you press a 400K mile engine into another tour or are you guessing it's been rebuilt?

I checked out the car today and told the seller I wanted it, It drive ok, runs pretty good, Oil pressure at hot idle is 1.5 Bar, goes to 3 by 1500 RPM, drops to around 1.3 Bar occasionaly at stopsigns.

Body is pretty good, better than described by the seller, interior is pretty good, again not perfect but you dont get a perfect SDL for this price.

Blowby seems low, at idle with engine warm the oil cap doesnt move at all.
Overall blowby looks alot less than any of my 4 617 motors.

takeoff is slow, then picks up nicely, takeoff is much slower than any of my 617's but overall the car is faster.

Underbody didnt look to bad, one hole needing welding,
Looks like im joining the 603 club.
