96 E300 Timing Chain Tensioner

Any one out there had to change their timing chain tensioner due to oil leakage? If so what's involved? Mine had started to leak more than I can stand is it an unscrew and replace as a unit or can it be resealed?

Is it leaking between the tensioner and the block or between the small hex and big hex? If it's between the tensioner and block, replace the crush washer. You should prime the tensioner whenever you remove it. Dip it in oil springy side down with oil above the level of the crush washer. Pump it slowly 10 times then install.

If it's leaking between the small hex and big hex, it's probably best to get a new tensioner.

The tensioner on my E300D started leaking a while back. It was leaking between the tensioner and block. Gave it a 1/4 turn and the leak stopped. YMMV.

Thanks guys I am not sure what part is leaking the whole thing is wet, Great advice Sixto I will clean it off and watch to see where the leak is, if it between the hexes then I will change unit out. I assume the prime procedure is the same for new one? Again thanks for the response!!
