Power Service Diesel Additives

Does anyone use Power Service Diesel Additives products http://www.powerservice.com/?

Are they effective? Your expert opinion would be appreciated.

I have used Powerservice, but here is my favorite additive. Soyshield. It uses a soy bio-diesel carrier for the additives.

I buy it by the gallon. It gave me 1-2 mpg better than Powerservice in my TDI and I can already hear and feel the difference on the first tank in the MB. Shutdown is even smooter since I added the Soyshield to this tank. I don't know why that would be (must be either better lubricity or the cetane boost is better vs Powerservice), but I couldn't help but notice the almost immediate change in the amount of shake/rock to the car on shutdown. The Soyshield is the only variable I can think of that changed from one day to the next.

Availability is the biggest issue. I buy it by the case in gallons when I purchase oil from the same manufacturer, Schaeffer's. I order $300 worth of stuff and get the best price and "free" shipping to my door from their plant in St. Louis. Another Houston oil geek from bobistheoilguy.com went in with me on an order a couple weeks ago.

Ist it simply an anti-gel? Does it do anything internally?

I emailed Power Service asking them to change their container to something similar to the Stabil container where the proporions can be measured from the same container. Hope they listen.

Stanadyne additive is much better than PS. But you won't find it at Wal-mart. There might be a lesson there!!!

Use PS routinely, just got another gallon. With the cetane boost, and lubricity, why would that not be good in cold weather? Will try Stanadyne next, if I can find some.

Someone suggested buying a bottle of Stabil, getting rid of the Stabil and pouring Power Service into it so it can be parceled out correctly. That's what I'm doing right now.

Stanadyne is a coaleser not a dispersant. IMO, If you run Stanadyne products (like power shot, actually one shot) you shold have a water separator in the fuel feed system.

The anti-algae stuff I got came in a stabil type container.

I still just pour some in. The gallon jug has lasted for months.

Thumbs up Standyne Performance Formula

Standyne Performance Formula was initially recommended to me by the only Bosch Certified FI Shop here in WV......I had phoned them to ask about bringing my injectors in for testing and repair/setting as needed.....they told me to run a couple of bottles of the Standyne thru the engine, and perhaps save myself a few dollars.!!

I had been using the Power Service and had done the LM Diesel Purge, so I didn't see much difference in my Benz's performance....did a test of Standyne on a Yanmar Excavator that was smoking badly and running rough....straightened it right out.....!!!

Standyne Products are only sold at Diesel Engine Shops and FI Calibration Shops, to the best of my knowledge...and are a tad more expensive than the Power Service products.....

Personally, I have decided to purchase a bottle of the Standyne Performance Formula every 3 months or so.....and to use the Power Service Grey/Silver product in the remaining time.....I like the grey/silver one better because it gives a bit more of a Cetane boost than the white one does....

Just one word on the Power Service... I've added it to WVO in the freezer. It gelled the WVO as bad as straight WVO.

However, I mixed 20% Diesel To 80% WVO and it didn't Gel. So... as far as an anti-gel, I think Winter Blend diesel is fine by itself. Don't mess with PS. I think it's crap.

Use the stuff in the gray bottle. Local diesel outlet can get Stanadyne products, but I have to pay shipping, will try online elsewhere.
