You can just change the delivery valve seals.. A used pump is around 350$, rebuilt 800$.. Seals... less than 100$ and some work involved.
Describe the problem you are having... What you have posted really doesnt help at all. |

Rough Idle?
Hot/Cold? Fuel Filters changed? How recent? Glow Plug operation? How well does it work? Valve Adjustment? How recent? Any signs of fuel fungus? Any signs of fuel leaks?

Injection pump replacement ?
Hi Guys
I've done all these things. I"ve been running grease in these cars for 3 yrs on 4 different cars with no problems until now. Bad biodiesel was the problem Iwas told. Someone told me that the delivery valve seals were shot to replace them. Were are they found in the pump and were do you buy them? Thanks Greg |

If it were me in your situation I would make sure for myself that the IP was toast. I wouldn't just take somebody else's word for it.
The Bosch mechanical IP for MB diesels for the most part lasts forever as it is a very robust item.

Once you are sure your injectors are okay it might be the pump. I think not rubber parts though. Either take an old injector line and get a test injector on one pump cylinder after another to check cranking volume by comparison. Or get a pressure gauge.
If the pump is damaged I would expect the internal piston to bore fit. It is possible as I know of quite a few pumps that have gone bad on biodiesel. Some component of the product seemed to reconstitute itself with the heat inside the injection pump and somehow became abrasive in nature. Or perhaps lost the lubricating ability. I favour the thought of retained process acids attacking the steel lapped finishes in the pump bores but who knows for sure. Small round lumps were found internally in the pumps that looked like tapioca. The actual cause of the failures other than it being the bio diesel is just speculation. But the pumps were bad. About 40 total that month. This was on purchased bio diesel. We had a real epidemic around here for awhile. Both piston pumps like ours and the newer volkswagon pumps. I now understand volkswagon has changed recommending alternative fuels for their cars other than a very restricted product use. Voids warranty now. .
