123 ignition tumbler wiring
 

hello everybody, my ignition tumbler housing just broke yesterday and it is something internal. the key will turn but there is no response whatsoever. i was able to drive it home because the sterring wheel will unlock but no electical power to every sysytem in the car. no headlights, turn signal lights, brake lights, no ac/heat, cant roll the windows down, etc. but i was able to hot wire the starter via the junction box on the passenger side inner fender wall.

anyway, i was able to pull the tumbler housing/assembly out of the dash and steering column but i have no choice but to break the wiring harness because the T would not line up to the slot to properly pull the electrical connection without breaking it.

now i dont know which wire goes to which. can somebody out there provide me a wiring diagram or any source of the ignition switch for my 1985 300D Turbo 123. does anyone know about the wire colors and which # on the electrical connector does it go.

any help will be appreciated! thanks in advance

Do you have the terminal numbers....I have a Haynes manual up to 84...They are probably close....
Are all of them unknown or do you have a few intact...?
They all seem pretty close on the schematics....as far as wire color and terminal#...
Somebody here probably has them...If not I can post what I have...

yellit, here are the terminal numbers:

15R:
50:
30:
15X:
30:
15:
P30:

notice the two (30)s, i wonder if those are interchangable?

Key Switch Colors
 

15 R.........Red/Green

50.........Violet/White

30......Red

15X.......Red/Yellow

30.......Red

15.......Red/Black...(I had this wrong first as Red/White)......

P30........Green/White

The #30's Red...Come from to the same point on the headlight switch.....they are the same...either one can go to the other....

See if your colors match these.....kevin

From 1982 300D Electrical Troubleshooting Manual:

15R: GN/RD from Fuse 4.
50: VI/WT from Start Lockout Switch
30: RD from light switch
15X: RD/YL from Fuse 8
30: RD from light switch
15: RD/BK from Fuse 12
P30: GN/WT from light switch

thank you for the detailed info. i appreciate it! now i have another option to test for the continuity just to make sure that i'm hooking up the correct wire to its respective terminals. once again thanks your time and for the knowledge.

Wait.!!..Me or Tango has a different color on # 15....Let me double check...His is probably correct...Will post right back....
