Does b100 hurt injection pump?

I have my intake off and since Im in there I am going to change fuel lines on my 190 2.2 in advance of a switchover to b100 (or 85, 50,30). Mostly this forum seems to suggest that fuel line changes are suggested but not critical-- what about the injector pump? Does it have any rubber parts that would degrade? I have this aversion to buying a new injector pump.

It seems to me that upstream of the filters you are ok, but the injector pump is what the filters are put there to protect. There seems to be a lack of consensus on this.... all I know is that what you do to a piece of machinery has consequences that it's unwise to disregard...

Filters are there to protect IP from dirt, not Bio. Bio will clean out the IP but you should not have damage from it. I would suggest you ween off fossil diesel slowly and change your filters often until the Bio is done cleaning tank and lines though so you do not end up clogged.I would change all rubber line prior to burning bio as they will degrade from it. Don't forget return lines.

"Does b100 hurt injection pump? "

No, its the water/crap that can be in the bioD, especially some "home brews"

b100 has a greater lubrocity than petro and is infact better for anything with metal on metal contact.... rubber will degrade but I have heard more about ulsd causing ip leaks and nothing about it in regard to b100.

Thanks people-- I will proceed accordingly. A friend of mine just had her Ford diesel's IP go down across the border in Quebec and believe me, you dont want to have that happen. $1800 dollars later she had a $1000 pickup with an $1800 IP.

My maintenance friends thought that there wasn't any rubber in an IP, just neoprene O rings. But theyre in KW and Macks more than MB's.

I have nearly 20,000 miles on mostly B100 with no injector problems, and no replacement parts. You rubber fuel lines will eventually degrade but they won't burst as soon as you but in the BD unless they are on the verge of falling apart already.

The day after I bought my benz i was running B100 in it and have never had a problem, not even a clogged filter. But I did change the filter after one month of B100. When I did the conversion to WVO I changed all the rubber fuel hoses with Vitron (sp?) hoses. One I didn't change was the old rubber ones that are attached straight to the tank under the rear of the car that go to the supply and return lines. After a few months I had the car jacked up to change the rear shocks and noticed the B100 was degrading them pretty well, but this was an easy fix since I was already under there. Just something to be aware of.

Also, be aware that in cold weather B100 will gel up at around 32 degrees F. I keep an eye on the weather and when it gets cold I'll put a few gallons on dino-diesel in there. You can also add Kerosene to Biodiesel to help keep the gel point a little lower as well. But Kerosene is a little more expensive per gallon around here. A good site that will answer all you BioD questions is:

biodiesel.infopop.cc

I found a great blending chart on there that might help you out:

These numbers are all based on mixes with biodiesel made from new soy oil. YMMV

% BioDiesel %Wint.D Gel temp in F
10 90 2F
20 80 4
30 70 6
40 60 8
50 50 10
60 40 13
70 30 17
80 20 21
90 10 25
100 0 32

% BioDiesel %Kerosene Gel temp in F
10 90 -28
20 80 -23
30 70 -17
40 60 -11
50 50 -5
60 40 2
70 30 9
80 20 16
90 10 24
100 0 32

that chart didn't carry over too well but the numbers should be divided into 3 columns and are separated by a space...hope this is not too confusing...
