Wikipedia list a 124128 model as a 300D 2.5 . I agree it may be related to it being a European model. I'm sure somebody knows for sure.

MBUSA leveraged the popularity of the 300D badge in the US in what the rest of the world knew as the 250D.

This car is quite well equipped. On the down side it doesn't have the manual features that endears many to Euro cars. About the only things special about this car are leather upholstery, manual rear windows (if that's special), manual passenger side mirror, headlight level adjuster and maybe no EGR. Baically needs a whole engine. Go for a US spec car.

You shouldn't trust the miles odometer in a car that was delivered from the factory with a kms odometer.

"To the best of my knowledge the motor would need to following: a cam shaft, valves, valve cover, timing chain and guides and gaskets."

And a piston, and a head....

There is a reason a cam breaks .... It could have lost oil pressure to the head or the whole engine for that matter and a cam journal siezed. Broken timing chain no good either. If you had a GOOD spare 2.5ltr. to install in it..... then ok.

I think it is a euro, by looking at the Euro bumpers and the signature intake vents on the right front fender. Basically the car they used to use for taxicabs all over Europe 15 years ago. The 250 was a popular taxicab engine too.

It looks to have been federalized, though, as it has Illinois plates on it.
There wasn't much of a gray market for cars like this back in 1992.
As the speedometer and odometer got changed from kms to mph as part of the federalization process, the mileage can't be verified for certain.

It could be a rusty car, too, if it lived in Northern Europe and Illinois for most of its life.

Its not worth a lot in its present state.

Well, here in Europe we do have a 250D with the 124 body and a om602 n/a engine. The 300d 2.5 that you guys have over there is the 250D turbo here in europe with the om602 turbocharged engine.

As for the airbag, I can't really say if all came with an airbag or not.

Edited: Now that I checked the actual auction, that's basically the same car that you have in the US as the 300D 2.5.

Definately a Euro, ... or somebody worked very hard to install manual windows in a US car.

The bumpers and fender vents are US.
