?Cali emission control system

Hi,

Has anybody details about the Californian Emission Control system in a 82 SD?
Such as: Is there a particle filter or just an oxidizer?
The reason I ask is, we here in Germany are getting trouble with old diesels, related to increased emission regulations and actually diesel particle emissions.
Bringing my SD to Germany with all the Californian emission control equipment it is not accepted as emission reducing system here.
My idea is to compare the Cali requirements with those of Germany (Europe) and to get a kind of confirmation from Mercedes that my car is “cleaner” than it is now in the registration.
What are the specs this car was in in 82? Milligrams NOx, Milligrams particles per Km (mi)? Or something like this.

Thanks

Tom

I dont think there was any cal. emission control system in the 82SD. The oxidizer started in '85 models.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe in 82 there was no difference between 49 state diesels and California diesels. The first MB diesels with California emissions started in 84 or 85.

I have no idea if there are published emissions specs for the California MB diesels.

An 82 SD is no different than any other 81-83 Federal SD.

Thanks so far.
Are those plates with cali emission reg conformity also on the federals?
My 82 SD has several of those plates.
The trap oxidiser is just an oxidiser like in the 124 series of the 90’s?

Trap oxidizer was only fitted in Calif 85-86 and Calif and Federal 87. I've never seen a US 124 300D 2.5 or E300 with a trap oxidier or oxidation catalyst.

sixto,

this means the 5 cyl. never was equipped with an oxidizer?
And trap oxidizer is a particle filter and different to an oxi-catalyst only?

BTW, the next few days I will install new injectors out of a VW 1.9 TD (no TDI of course). Those have 2 springs inside which increases the pre spray advantages.
VW Nr 028 130 201B
Bosch Nr 2 FH KCA 27 S 77, 150 bar
The nozzles had to be changed.

I think the 82 cali models had a computer controlled EGR.

No they don't have one. It first showed up on the '84 cali model.
