OT: Movie buffs - Back to future toyota a diesel?

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pts/269237233.html

That got me wondering if the back to the future truck that Marty so desperately wanted was a 5spd diesel. IMDB and wikipedia dont say WHAT kind of truck it was. Just 4x4.

Odds are - no, it was a gasser. Perhaps if you watched the movie real close you could look for a diesel badge on the tailgate.

That was just on the other day, and I was eyeing the truck because I have an '86 4Runner that looks just like his truck. It didn't sound like a diesel and I didn't notice any markings, but wasn't looking for them either. It did show the truck enough to be able to tell I think...maybe someone has it on dvd they could investigate.

AFAIK toyota only offered two diesels in the US. the landcruiser and their smaller non-4x4 pickup truck. The toyota in the movie was the 4x4 and therfore couldnt have been a diesel.

here's one.
In the first scene of Back to the Future, Marty switches an amplifier with the words 'CRM-114' printed on it. The CRM-114 is the nomenclature of the Strategic Air Command encryption/decryption device aboard the B-52 Stratofortress in the 1964 film Dr. Strangelove.

oh ok, I was thinking more along the lines of mistakes and what not, I've seen a bunch of those in the films. for example, the guitar he was playing in 1955 wasnt out untill 1959, the mall scene in the first movie the car gains and loses a few thousand miles between speedo shots

1985 Toyota SR5 Xtra Cab, like this one, except with a custom light bar and maybe some other little things.
License plate in BTTF Part II is 2BAK860, if you wanted to get a custom license plate in your state if you pick up one of these.

BIFF: A Flying DeLorean? What the hell is going on here?

Yup. I like the BTTF movies.......a lot.
The last of the big studio films with absolutely no computer generated special effects. All done optically via film tricks, models, and other "old fashioned" methods. Real artistry in those.

There has been a mid to late 80's toyota 4x4 pickup with a diesel for sale locally. I also saw one parked on the street a few months ago. They are around.
